Hey, are you watching the new Fox series, Rosewood (@RosewoodFox) starring the deliciously talented, Morris Chestnut and supported by some new faces as well as the always-great-to-see: Lorraine Toussaint? Having watched the first two episodes, I’ve just jumped back into the series and found that the cast chemistry and the show is getting better and beter as it finds a cool rhythm befitting its Miami setting. This murder-mystery dramedy centers around, Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, a private pathologist, played by Chestnut, working with Miami Detective, Annalise Villa – played by Jaina Lee Ortiz. Of course, there’s tension between the two. Villa is a tough detective who just left NYC and returned home to Miami. She’s not too welcoming of a local pathologist worming his way into the field, her cases and maybe her heart. However, that tension makes for fun TV watching. Morris Chestnut gets a well-deserved chance (he’s been paying his dues for a while) to star in a vehicle where he shows his very capable dramatic and comedic chops.
Chestnut is mesmerizing and ups the chemistry quotient in every scene he works. For example, in the first episode, we see him briefly interact with Chester the city coroner, played by Patrick Michael Buckley. Although the two characters chat for a short time, the banter is terrific. Which reminds me, where is Chester? Love to see more of him in succeeding episodes. The latest episode tonight guest starred, the super talented, Vondie Curtis Hall as Rosewood's dad and fellow doctor. Can anyone say, emotional roller coaster and strained father-son relationship?
Rosewood's cool, modern lab, complete with fancy gadgets, monitors, and a big electronic board matches the cool vibe of Miami the background city for the show. It also compliments the non-traditional doctor doing an exam in a pink t-shirt in the first episode that shows off his triceps as he quite professionally and competently orders directions to his assistants like: “Scalpel.” “Backlight my world.“ “Run a biopsy on that tissue.” Significantly, this lab is a family-run business, creating instant relationship dynamics as Dr. Rosewood is assisted in his lab by his smart sister, Pippy Rosewood - played by Gabrielle Dennis, and Pippy’s fiancé, Tara - played by Anna Konkle.
The Rosewood ensemble gives us pure popcorn fun Wednesday nights at 8/7 p.m. on Fox as they solve whodunit mysteries every week. So, check it out when you want to check out of the stress of your own life and allow the charms of Morris Chestnut & company, along with the magic city of Miami, take you on a ride of escapism. Tweet 'em, if you love 'em. (@RosewoodFOX) #Rosewood
